Electronics surplus vendors differ from distributors in that they buy lots of closed out inventory, and as a result they typically don't disclose the manufacturer.   This can make it difficult to find a data sheet on the parts.  It's not advisable to design a commercial project around a surplus item, because when they run out, you may not be able to get another one.  However, for hobbyists surplus venders are a great source of parts.
