Direct Digital Synthesis IC (DDS)

A DDS is composed of a counter, and a lookup table, and a DAC. As the counter increments it looks up a sine wave from the memory, and outputs the value to a Dac. The result is a sine wave with a frequency based on the master clock frequency. Analog devices have several DDS chips. DDS can also be done using CPLDs and DSPs or even microcontrollers.
